Heavy Equipment Operator

The successful candidate for this position requires a high school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training; must possess a valid state Position “B” CDL driver’s license with the ability to obtain a Class “A” CDL with tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire date; requires a minimum of two (2) of years of experience in the operation and hauling of heavy equipment. The selected candidate will operate heavy and specialized equipment in the installation, maintenance and repair of collection system components; equipment operated includes but is not limited to trucks, trailers, track hoes, back hoes, front-end loaders, low boys, tankers, bull dozers, motor graders, rollers, pans, compactors, etc.; operate a jack hammer, pipe saw and other assorted hand/power tools; haul equipment and supplies to work sites; perform repairs and replacement of wastewater collection system force mains, sewer lines, manholes and other system components; raise and lower manholes; install new sewer mains, manholes and service laterals; replace existing sewer mains; make service taps on existing sewer mains; make use of lasers in the installation of sewer mains; make use of surveying equipment, levels, grade rods when establishing grades; fill in for team lead when absent; respond to customers concerns and take corrective action when problems arise; maintain and repair rights-of-way, creek banks and creek crossings; perform routine landscaping work as necessary at the completion of maintenance and repair projects to repair property damage; order and/or request parts, supplies and materials necessary for daily tasks; perform all work in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of safety; maintain accurate and up-to-date records of work performed; inspect equipment for proper and safe working condition; clean and maintain assigned vehicles, tools and equipment; receive and respond to inquiries, complaints and requests for assistance in areas of responsibility; perform additional duties or emergency duties after normal work hours as requested; work on call 24 hours per day as scheduled for emergency response; attend meetings, training, workshops, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.
