Greenville, S.C. (March 20, 2017) - The National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) has recognized Renewable Water Resources (ReWa) with a National Environmental Achievement Award for the Agency’s Clean Water Challenge environmental education program.
The National Environmental Achievement Award Program recognizes individuals and NACWA member agencies that have outstanding contributions to environmental protection and the clean water community. ReWa was recognized in the category of Public Information and Education.
In 2016, ReWa partnered with Greenville County Schools for the second annual Clean Water Challenge to educate middle school students about the importance of protecting local waterways. To participate in the Clean Water Challenge, students divided into teams and chose specific Be Freshwater Friendlycampaigninitiatives to research as well as created their own campaigns to address water quality issues in our area. They also learned about the wastewater treatment process and completed a lab event and process test. This challenge has been developed in alignment with seventh grade science curriculum and serves as a STEAM project for the participants. ReWa has continued the annual Clean Water Challenge with Greenville County Schools in 2017.
