ReWa receives WEASC Pretreatment Program Excellence Award

ReWa's Karen Sprinkle, pretreatment commercial coordinator; Brent Dickard, pretreatment programs supervisor; and Ken Mattison, senior pretreatment programs coordinator, accepted the Water Environment Association of South Carolina (WEASC) Pretreatment Program Excellence Award from Sonya Harrison, senior environmental/pretreatment specialist with Goldie and Associates.

GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA (January 28, 2026)— Renewable Water Resources (ReWa) has been awarded the Water Environment Association of South Carolina (WEASC) Pretreatment Program Excellence Award for 2025. The honor recognizes utilities that demonstrate outstanding performance in industrial pretreatment, environmental protection and regulatory compliance.

WEASC’s Industrial Committee presented the award during the organization’s Industrial Wastewater and Pretreatment Workshop in Columbia, South Carolina.

“Recognition by peers is among the highest accolades we can receive,” said Brent Dickard, ReWa’s pretreatment program supervisor. “This award reflects the dedication of our pretreatment team and their commitment to partnering with industrial and commercial customers to protect our environment, safeguard our infrastructure and support the broader community.”

ReWa’s pretreatment program, established in 1984, regulates industrial and commercial users through permitting, inspections and the monitoring of discharges. The program’s success is supported by several best practices, including:

  • Annual Compliance Excellence Awards recognize industries that achieve 100% compliance with ReWa’s Sewer Use Regulations.
  • A structured onboarding process in which new pretreatment staff receive on-the-job training with a mentor, along with encouragement to maintain South Carolina biological wastewater operator certification and attendance at regional and national conferences.
  • Active participation in ReWa’s community outreach programs, including facility tours and school visits.
  • Quarterly business meetings with industrial users to discuss policy updates, contaminants of emerging concern, while providing an open forum for questions and collaboration.

Pretreatment programs play a critical role in protecting wastewater collection systems, water resource recovery facilities, utility employees and the environment.
