Renewable Water Resources (ReWa) became aware of and stopped an unanticipated bypass at its Lower Reedy Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) around 5:30 a.m. today. Proper notifications have been made to the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services and the Greenwood Commissioners of Public Works.

An estimated 65,000 gallons of partially treated material from the Lower Reedy WRRF was accidentally released onsite. Most of the waste stream flowed into the Reedy River. The public should not enter the Reedy River directly below the Lower Reedy treatment facility until further notice.

ReWa teams are monitoring the river and collecting samples for laboratory analysis. ReWa will continue to post updates regarding progress and new details as they become available. For additional information, please contact our hotline at 864-299-4004. Any updates will be posted as a “news alert” at the top of our homepage at ReWaonline.org.
