ReWa project recognized by Congress

Posted May 26, 2017 in Articles

Our Reedy River Quality Group was recently used as a model for water quality integrated planning and permitting during a testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives’ Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Water and Environment. American Public Works Association Board Director Bill Spearman, who is also a water quality expert based in Saluda, S.C., shared our partnership as an example of best practices.

The Reedy River Water Quality Group is comprised of ReWa, the City of Greenville, Greenville County and multiple other organizations in the local community who are voluntarily applying EPA’s 5R approach with the goal of improving water quality. The 5R approach is a collaborative effort that provides flexibility on how organizations apply their resources to achieve water quality standards. One of the strategic goals is to share the nutrient loads that are discharged into our local rivers. The group is also working with SCDHEC and EPA to further develop the 5R approach to ensure water quality improvement.

Watch the full testimony here. We are honored to have our work recognized at such a high level!
